Paris 2024 Olympics : Cloud beats Satellite !
🥇 For the first time in the history of the Olympics, Cloud will be the main method of distribution to the Rights Holders, taking over from Satellite which was first used in 1964 for the Tokyo Olympics.
✅ Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), a subsidiary of the International Olympic Committee, has partnered with Alibaba Cloud to launch OBS Cloud 3.0. to help 50+ media outlets get videos and images from the games.
👉 Over 400 live video feeds and 100 audio feeds will be transmitted during the Games to approximately half the world’s population.
✅ Remote production will also be heavily used. The Virtual Outside Broadcasting (VOB) system, developed in collaboration with Intel, allows for remote production and flexible live signal distribution.
👉 VOB will be used for the coverage of judo, wrestling, tennis and shooting, in particular.
🌳 These approaches further reduce the physical footprint and power demands at venues.
